eBay registers member surge after upgrade

This was taken from The Star Tech Central 26 February 2008.

PETALING JAYA: Online marketplace eBay, announced that close to 12,000 new members registered on eBay.com.my in the first 30 days following the launch of its upgraded local site on Nov 13. The latest figure stands at 30,000.

The upgrades on the site includes the Advanced Search tool for more accurate searches and the “My eBay” link that displays a customised page for auction and bid management. For the seller, there’s Selling Manager and eBay Sales Reports for tracking and managing sales.

On the security front, eBay.com.my now has an upgraded online Security and Resolution Centre for reporting problems and an eBay Toolbar with Account Guard feature, which will alert a user if they are visiting a fraudulent site.

According to research firm IDC, Malaysia currently has more than 15 million Internet users and e-commerce is expected to grow at a compound annual growth rate of 17% through 2010.

“The surge of new registrations on eBay.com.my is encouraging as it indicates that Malaysians recognise this potential and are becoming more comfortable with trading online,” eBay vice-president Dan Neary said in a statement. Recognising that trust is a major issue in trading online, eBay also recently collaborated with MOL AccessPortal to launch MOL SafePay in Malaysia.

MOL SafePay is a secure payment solution that facilitates person-to-person fund transfer securely on eBay.com.my, enabling safe online purchases and sales to be carried out.

3 is family

Ok. I’ve been delaying this post for the past few days.. As you all know Deluxe wasn’t feeling too good, ever since we got back from Miri. So on Monday, I brought Deluxe to see the doctor. The doc went and checked her up, and after running a few test she was confirmed pregnant. It was indeed a great news for us, and thank God that everything was all right. Except for her morning sickness and tiredness. But anyway, indeed it brought us joy. So for the past few days, Deluxe has been resting most of the time while I man handle the shop alone. She did come down once in a while to accompany me to have lunch. And after that, normally after lunch would ask her to go back upstairs and rest again :) We went and visited the Gynecology & Obstetrics, we managed to scan and saw our little baby at only 76mm. But it’s all good.. We’ll be heading back there again once a month to check up.. Been getting a lot of tips from the eBay forums, where some of the member consist of mommy as well.. Anyway, will be updating this site theme again soon :) So it’s all good..

Meet My Baby

Mommy is starting to have her cravings now, just that she doesn’t tend to eat much though. As long as I can help relieve her stress, it’s all good :D Anyway, when is she supposed to due? The first doc we went to said would be 10/10/08.. But apparently the Gynecologist said that could be 12 or 13, latest by the 18th October 2008.. So probably I’ll just put 18th October due :) .. It’s all good..

3 people had signed up for my course liaw :D Another 27 to go. Hurry, while there are still places left :)

Latest Updates

Despite of my New Year resolution. Sorry didn’t had time to update this page, but apparently.. I had been busy with lots of things.. I went and reconstructed my education specialist site. So basically it’s pretty much converted to something useful I think. Lol.. Also am currently going into a new business soon, just awaiting for the other side to confirmed it and hopefully will get everything running by the end of this week. Actually I written a very nice long page, but I accidentally closed it. -_-” Anyway.. Here are the major updates first….

We had an early reunion dinner during Chinese New Year here in Kuching. Because, Deluxe and myself will heading back to Miri on Chinese New Year eve. We had guest that dropped by and joined us during this festive season here in Kuching. You can see more pictures here :)

The next day we got up pretty early because our flight was first thing in the morning. So we got back home and dad came and picked us up from the airport. After having breakfast we went around shopping for the New Year. With still so many people doing their last minute shopping, we continue our journey as we went and bought some mandrin oranges. Pretty good I must say, but then got sick of it when eating too much.. Lol.. Anyway, we had our reunion dinner, where the whole family got back and then had a makan session. More pictures here.

The first day of Chinese New Year was hectic, where we had guest coming in towards the afternoon. Whereby it was pretty much raining very heavily during the day time. So by the time it was during the afternoon, we had guest coming in and out of the house none stop. So we got pretty much tired the first day. 2nd day wasn’t too bad as we went out and visit people. By the 3rd day, we sort of escape from all the activities, whereby I brought Deluxe go round the place. We went to visit the Grand Old Lady, and managed to scout around the museum. Too bad it’s a little bit run down due to the fact of very “delicate” hands went and played around with them. -_-” But it’s all good… More pictures can be found here.

Apart from that, what I do for Valentine Day? Ermm.. Nothing.. Due to the fact that Deluxe and I already signed a contract to celebrate Valentine Day on 14th February due to the unreasonable price jacking period on the 14th.. So we decided to celebrate on some other day, plus she wasn’t really feeling too well as well. Hopefully she’ll be slightly better on the 27th this month, as I was thinking that it would be a great day to celebrate because on the 27th was our engagement day. Anyway, will publish this post now.. Will update you guys more again at a later day…

I’m giving away a total of RM300 to those who sign up for my course. Yeah.. Pretty much don’t you think, but I need the number and help also. I’ve got a rep to maintain.. Lol. But it’s all good. You can check it out on my post here.

Don't Have A Credit Card?

So you don’t have a credit card, how would you buy or sell on eBay. Well, there are a few banks who are offering debit cards that are able to be used for internet purchases. Here are the list of them :-

Ambank – AmBank NexG PrePaid MasterCard
Eon Bank – Mol Freedom
Public Bank – Public Bank Visa Electron Debit Card

Why it is important to have a credit card or a debit card is because when you are trading internationally, this is how PayPal as well as eBay will be able to verify us via our billing address. So that people would know you are for real, and not a fraud or a conman. So which card is best for you if you don’t really have a card?

Currently PayPal will only be able to withdraw to a VISA card. So the Public Bank Visa Electron card would be a good choice. But the only draw back for this is that, it would take at least 1 month to one and a half months for it to get approved and to be used. So the best option is probably you could wait for the card or apply for a MOL Freedom card (which normally takes about 10 working days for the card to be activated) first while waiting for the public bank card to arrive.

Benefits of Having a debit card
It is safer to place a debit card rather than a credit card on file. So that you should place a minimum amount in the card so that your funds will not be used.
Not over spending, whereby you would know your limit so you wouldn’t need to worry on over spending.

So if you don’t have a credit card, get a debit card and start selling on eBay today.
