General Election 2008

Ok, this has to be my 15th time I’ve tried entering this entry. I’ve actually written a nice and long post about my experience on voting, but apparently there had been some problems with my wordpress, ended up clearing everything up again and reinstall it. Hopefully it doesn’t give me any more problems. Could be due to the fact of the new template I installed.

As most of you already know the results of the election. Thus many believed that a new Malaysia has been born. But for me, this was the very first time I participated in the election. Thus it was pretty exciting, as well as a good experience. Hey, at least I played my part as a Malaysian Citizen in doing what I believe everyone should do. I’ve managed to register myself last year, with the help of a fiery red hair head lawyer friend who actually brought the forms so that I could fill em up. Anyway, I’m glad that I did fill up and participate in this time election, if not I would had left out on a lot of things already :P

On our way to meet up with his friends

Before the election, my elder brother Eric told me we so by happened to be at the same polling station to vote. So I asked him if it’s ok that I tag along since I don’t really know where that school is. He asked me if I had any other plans on that day, and I told him I did not because they were going to have breakfast first then go for the election. So after picking up his girlfriend, we met up at one of his friend place and then car pool to Nine to Five to have our breakfast. The price wasn’t as shocking as I thought it was, because it was common to see RM4.50 – RM7.00 for some local food.. Guess mebbe they’re gonna upgrade the cost of living in Miri to like Kuching.. I wonder if they still have the RM1.50 noodles or not, but I doubt they would.

I asked for fried kuay tiaw, which basically didn’t taste as amazing as how my brother friend put it. But it’s all good. I guess maybe because Kuching has much better taste compared to Miri (I don’t believe I’m actually saying this). Anyway, didn’t really take much of the place because my brother and his friends were toying with my camera, so yeah.. Basically that was pretty much about it :) After breakfast we headed off to our first destination.

Supporters standing by the road side to encourage people to vote

We were sort of welcome by the BN supporters who were there to offer ride for people who didn’t had transportation to go home. We went over to Dato Permaisuri School where my bro’s Gf polling station were there. They actually had computerized system now so that, they wouldn’t need to go through a long wait in order to get polling number as well as station. It wasn’t long the process as there weren’t many people left there. After she came out, we headed of to our polling station which was at a school, which I never knew it was there before :P Oh well.

Peter Chin’s Ride

Upon arrival, BN representative was there to shake hands with the people around that area. Didn’t managed to shake his hand because he was at the other side of the road. So anyway, managed to took his car though I think.. So off we went into the school and get our polling number. Upon receiving it, we headed to our polling station (classroom) and went and cast our votes.. But before that they had to check our IC first.

Checking our IC

Well, it was a bit weird because I was asked to wait outside first because my brother hasn’t got his number and the polling ticket yet. So after he voted, then I was allowed to go in.. -_-” I wonder how long it must have taken for people to vote, if there was a long queue. Anyway, after getting my polling ticket, I head over to the table and lo and behold. I’ve found a pencil waiting for me there. -_-” I was like, ok. We are still using pencil. But anyway, the most I could say exciting moment was when I decided who I would love to vote for. Suddenly it felt as if you have the power to decide who you want to govern over the country. Yeah, even it means by crossing the one you would want to vote. But anyway, after a few moments of looking at the people who were staring at me, I went and crossed out the candidate that I wanted to vote. After that, I fold the paper and drop it at the polling box. Boy was that fun. After that was said and done, we left for our last destination at the school near Bong’s house.

One of the monument in the school

While waiting for KC and Seng to vote, I went around and see is there anything interesting around the school. Anyway, it wasn’t long before they were done and we headed back home. Thus ended my voting experience back home. After that, I had lunch with my parents, then followed my younger brother Jason to lepak for a while before I head out shooting with Hua Sing. I’ve still yet to post mine because they are in the middle of processing. Hopefully to get it done soon :) Anyway, that’s all for now.. Will try and update this page more often, because traffic are starting to build in.

During this trip, I was given a Motorola L6 as well as a Play Station 2. Hehehe. I feel loved :P
