I’ll be starting a new category on parenting. I may not be the perfect person or role model to follow. But hopefully whatever experiences I go through with Esther, may help others in the future. At least with this now, it gives me more reason to blog about.

Esther just before her 2 years old birthday
One of the greatest fear that I’ve always been afraid of is whenever Esther fall sick especially to fever. This is because during this time, you can’t really do much apart from praying and giving medicine where hopefully she will get well soon. I guess because the feeling of being helpless and not able to do something for her made a huge impact, whereby sometimes you wish it was you who is going through it and not her.
It happened on Tuesday, right after her afternoon nap she started sneezing and apparently had caught a flu somehow. She started to get cranky after that, and it wasn’t long she started to throw tantrums. When I closed the shop at 7 that evening, I was told by Deluxe that Esther body temperature is hot and was at 37.8.
Of course the very first reaction that I got was that should we bring Esther to the doctor as she developed a fever. But Deluxe said not to worry first as it’s not too high and she normally gets fever whenever she catches the flu. So I went and got Panadol for her, and that night we slept without using air condition. Fortunately for us, despite Esther being sick she still feel and act normal in a sense that she was still playing as if nothing happen.
Anyway, Deluxe woke up quite a number of time just to make sure that her temperature doesn’t goes up too high. For me, I was pretty much playing the role of an ice block as my body tends to be cold blooded some how. Whereby she would normally place her head or any part of the body which is warm to pretty much cool off. She didn’t really wanted to use those plasters that you stick on the head that acts like a wet cloth, so I was pretty much an alternative.
The next she woke up, and Deluxe gave her another round of Panadol. No doubt her temperature was still going up and down, and it wasn’t until about 9am her fever broke and finally she started to sweat. She was still trying her best to stay awake and play, but she knows her body did not allow for her to do so. So she ended up taking 2 naps yesterday, instead of 1 whereby she normally does.
When evening came, she seems to be back to normal already. But just to be safe, we gave her another dose of Panadol just before she goes to sleep. She had about 4 dosage, whereby each we gave her 6 ml. The one that I bought for her was Panadol age 1-6 that has strawberry flavor. So it was good that she wanted to take it, unlike the ones that you get from the doctors whereby she wouldn’t eat for days after that.
During this time when she had fever, Deluxe made sure the whole day she was sweating as well as drinking a lot of water. She even went to her potty all on her own which seems to surprised me, as she always wanted help whenever she goes there. For her flu, Deluxe applied eucalyptus oil on her back and chest as well as pouring a bit on Esther’s handkerchief. Which actually bring a bit of relief for her stuffy nose. But thank God that she’s well already.
Anyway, today she’s back to her usual self, and was pretty much able to keep both mummy and daddy busy playing with her. I went and did a search on fever, and it brought me to this article Childhood Illness : Fever. The information there is quite useful especially when you seriously need to freak out. But at the end of the article he did comment that “ABOVE ALL, IF YOU HAVE A “GUT FEELING” THAT YOUR CHILD IS SERIOUSLY ILL; YOU SHOULD CONTACT YOUR DOCTOR RIGHT AWAY.”
