Life and How to Survive It

Ok.  Currently busy at the moment, so no time to write up on something. Lol.  Anyway, a friend of mine suggested that I should read this article, and boy was I amused by it. Lol.  It’s a good laugh actually, so here you go.

Below is a speech to the graduating class of 2008 at NTU convocation ceremony last week by Adrian Tan, a litigation lawyer and the author of The Teenage Textbook. Read it! It’s hilarious but very meaningful.

I must say thank you to the faculty and staff of the Wee Kim Wee School of Communication and Information for inviting me to give your convocation address. It’s a wonderful honour and a privilege for me to speak here for ten minutes without fear of contradiction, defamation or retaliation. I say this as a Singaporean and more so as a husband.

My wife is a wonderful person and perfect in every way except one. She is the editor of a magazine. She corrects people for a living. She has honed her expert skills over a quarter of a century, mostly by practising at home during conversations between her and me.

On the other hand, I am a litigator. Essentially, I spend my day telling people how wrong they are. I make my living being disagreeable.

Something to talk about

So it’s been a while since I really did a post on more personal stuff or even parenting stuff.  I’ve not really been busy actually, but have been reading up more on Python and at the same time trying to fool around with App Inventor by google.  As most of you have already know by now I went and flashed my phone rom, from running Windows Mobile 6.1 to Android Froyo 2.2 Cyanogen version.  Will do a write up on a more details that maybe tomorrow.

Apart from that, life have been good.  Considering the new year is here, but everything else is pretty much still the same.  I’ve still yet to figure out what’s wrong with the latest version of Ubuntu 10.10, but I pretty much suspect it’s due to the latest kernel that apparently seem to freeze my laptop like every 10-15 minutes.  If I use the previous kernels, everything seems to be fine.  I’m still waiting for their latest patch but it seems, there way too many bugs.  So I guess sticking with 10.04 will be fine for now.

As 2010 left just like that without any much achievement, I wonder if 2011 would do the same.  But at least I know this year, as I’ m going to hit the number 30 maybe it’s time to pretty much look back on how far I got here.  And hopefully I wouldn’t get into any mid-life crisis.  But so many things had happened, and I wondered if things really happen for a reason.  And if I only had made the other decision back then, would things be different today?  But I guess it’s all in the past already, so just look forward to what will happen in the future.  Who knows something bigger may be in store for me.

But I guess that’s life, taking chances and hoping the decision you make is the right one.  So far, everything seems to be in proper order but at times you pretty much wish it could have been better if I wanted to have more.  Never the less, learn to have patience and perseverance hopefully everything will turn out all right in the end.  Sometimes I wonder if people do come and read what I blog or not. :P

So Long 2010, Welcome 2011

Esther & Me in Januaray 2010

I can’t believe it that it is the last day of the year already.  Time passed by so quickly for 2010, compared to the previous years.  Don’t know why, but I felt that I don’t have really much time to do anything much.  And maybe I’ve been doing way a lot of things, and time just pass by without me noticing it.  Never the less, this year have been a good year despite of all the set backs I face through.  But I thank God that He was able to pull me through another year.  And I’m looking forward to see what he has in store for me the up coming new year.

Deluxe & Esther @ Toys R Us Grand Opening

This year in January, I was given another opportunity to witness the grand opening of Toys R Us at the Hills Shopping Mall.  As this was an event whereby other bloggers attended and pretty much blogged about it.  Never the less, it was a good experience for Esther as the last time I did something like this was at Poppies.  Anyway, we didn’t get anything that day but did walk off with some goodies bag including a RM20 voucher which we ended up using 9 months after that day.

Esther and her Tai Pak

During this time, Esther tends to recognise people.  She  pretty much don’t let people carry her as they seem scary to her I suppose.  But not her Tai Pak, because she seen her quite a number of times before heading back to Miri to celebrate Chinese New Year.  But even before that, she was afraid of him then.  So I guess during that time children tend to wonder who strangers are and still wondering if it’s ok to hang out with them or not.

Ah Kung's Birthday

Mommy's Birthday

Daddy's Birthday

Esther's Birthday

There were indeed a lot of time of celebration, especially birthdays when practically everyone was around.  So you could imagine how lau jiet it was especially when everyone birthday falls at a different date.  Never the less, it was a fun moment for everyone to come together and celebrate.

My New Makeover

And of course, there was this time I decided to have a make over.  As I was pretty much tired of having long hair already.  So hence the short hair came along and decided my new fate in life.  No one pretty much notice it until it started to grow long and messy, hence everyone thought what was wrong with me.  Life’s good anyway :)

Holankia Talkshow

Well, this year has been a surprising year for me as I started out the Holankia Talkshow.  Back then we had a variety of shows, where The Vertical Connection was me and Larry, The Lost ARK was when Kevin, Ru and myself, Mohawk Madness was Kevin and I. and the latest edition is Good Morning Kuching Show is where both Dennis and I rock Kuching every Monday and Thursday morning.  This was due to the fact that Larry, Kevin and Ru was packed with their lives hence the rest had to temporary stop for now.  So the only current active one is Good Morning Kuching Show, which seems to be a big hit for many.  Didn’t know why I wanted to start a podcast back then, or what got me started doing it in the beginning.  But never the less, it has been one wild ride and I’m now even starting to vlog on youtube.  Go figure.

Venice, Esther & Nathan In Singapore

Apart from going to Miri, 3 of us actually ventured back to Jakarta for a week and another stop at Singapore.  And Esther got to meet the rest of her cousins.  Despite she is still learning on how to mingle and take turns, I guess that’s what you get for having one child.  But never the less, it’s good exposure for her.  So it’s all good.

Esther at Waterfront

So that’s pretty much about it in 2010.  So many things passed just like that.  No doubt there were good times and bad times which I didn’t really state here as I don’t think I want to recall it when I look back at this blog.  But never the less, let the good time roll as they say.  And I can’t imagine how much I achieve especially during Christmas which was planned since last year. Lol.  But it’s a satisfaction I suppose, when you really want something to be done. You go find ways to do it.  Next year, I’ve already set myself a goal, and at the same time did something which I never I ever thought of doing.  Hopefully everything will work out smoothly.  And also I’m going back to scripting again, as my partner in crime Dennis some how managed to get me back into doing it. Hehehe.

So what’s in store for 2011?  Apart from my resolution next to my side bar.  I will continue to love my family even more, and stay closer to God even more.  As at times I tend to wander off for a while. Lol.  Never the less, God is good.  And I shall step into the New Year this time by holding this hand.  On behalf of me and my family, I would like to wish all of you a Blessed New Year.

Two videos I would like to leave behind for this last day. To pretty much remind myself that I am so fortunate on how God has blessed me with a loving wife. And that may our marriage will continue to grow strong for the coming years.

Christmas Eve

Siaran.Net

We are now on Siaran.Net

I went and submitted my podcast to Siaran.Net which is a Malaysian Podcast Directory & Community.  Guess Christmas indeed came early for me this year. Lol.  And also for Android & Blackberry users, you can now stream us live via Mediafly – A Walk of Faith Podcast.  You can download their software here http://www.mediafly.mobi.  Maybe doing podcasting hopefully twice a week now will not be so bad.  Considering the amount of hits we’re getting from all of you.  Really thank you for your continuous support.  Couldn’t have done it without all of you listening out there.  Now looking forward to 2011, hopefully the Holankia Talkshow will entertain you with many segments.  And hopefully by then my other co-host such as Kevin, Ru, & Larry will have more time to do it.  But from then till now, you can be sure that “The Good Morning Kuching Show” will continue to entertain you for the upcoming weeks.

Esther fascinated with her shadow

This year really have been a really quick year, and it’s already Christmas eve.  Not long after that it will be New year followed by Chinese New Year.  I wanted to do a lot of things this year, but ended up putting it up back on the shelf.  So hopefully next year, I will be able to achieve most of my goals which I’ve set years ago.  And as how Dennis puts it to be more “aggressive” lol.  But it has been a good year I suppose for me, despite the ups and downs I’m getting.  I guess that’s life, and maybe I was put there and then for a reason.

Evening at Kuching waterfront

But I’m really grateful for all the friends that I’ve met all these years.  No doubt we don’t really keep in touch already, but you guys are great.  And I would like to congratulate my best friend Bong who will be getting married next year, and I am honored to be able to attend your wedding.  We’ve been through thick and thin, and I’m very happy for you that you’re finally joining the club. Lol.

Deluxe & Esther @ Jubilee Ground

I guess one of the greatest surprise that I gave Deluxe was just yesterday.  Whereby I went and bought her something really nice.  And pretty much took me few days to prepare.  The next time if I plan to do something like this again most likely I need to write down the things I want to get.  Because most of the time I always ended up forgetting what to get, so it’s cool.  Anyway, being able to get her something which was unexpected and to see that I was able to make her happy one way or another is the greatest achievement in probably being a good husband and father.  But all women are the same, I guess they don’t want material stuff but rather as long their men will continue to stay faithful to them is good enough.  But it’s ok to spoil one’s wife once in a while, to pretty much keep the romance going :P

Esthers' Masterpiece

I would like to thank you for taking time off to come back to this site to pretty much read up what I have been up to.   All post in here I hope is to pretty much entertain you, and hopefully take stress out from you guys.  And also to my new partner in crime Dennis, thank you for always being there to kacau me everyday when no one else is doing. Hahaha.  Really appreciate your time on Facebook. Hahaha.  So let’s continue to rock Kuching even harder next year aight!

And on behalf of Deluxe, Esther and myself.  I would like to wish all of you Merry Christmas and a happy new year.  You all have a good weekend!

Preparing For Tomorrow

For those of you who are currently using Ubuntu, and uses the IM pidgin.  You would notice that there is always a notification for those who comes online or goes offline, or even receiving new messages.  You can check out the post here on Disable Online User Notification in Pidgin, which really helps a lot.  So you won’t be disturbed all the time unnecessary.

And as you know, each time whenever Ubuntu upgrades itself it will add a new boot menu item in your boot menu.  Especially for those who are running dual boot, it’s really a pain by selecting the item you wish to boot into.  You can go to this post “Clean Up the New Ubuntu Grub2 Boot Menu” to pretty much clean up your boot menu.

So today is 1st December 2010.  And it has reach the final month of 2010.  How times flies, especially when you’re busy or don’t really take time to stop and smell the roses.  And as you all notice, after I changed the template for this website 3 weeks ago.  I have been trying very hard to be consistent in doing a post everyday, and so far I have yet to miss one apart from Sunday.  It helped especially when someone who have been supporting me all these years, kept on encouraging me to write and be consistent.   So at least, whenever I start to do anything in the future, I will keep on doing it and don’t fall back halfway like I always used to.

Fisheye on DUN

If you noticed on my side bar, I have already put a list for my 2011 resolutions on what I want to achieve next year.  I didn’t do one this year, because I don’t know what I wanted unlike my previous years.  I’m still thinking on what I plan to put on that list, as I still have another 31 more days to finalise it and start working on it to achieve my target.  Another thing I’m working on is also pretty much plan out on how am I going to achieve my goals, especially goal #1.  It may not seem much, but I shall try to give it a shot.

I was a bit emo today as how Dennis would put it as, I feel that this year went by so quickly compared to previous years.  I don’t know why, but somehow I felt that I didn’t achieve anything much.  Whereby I still saw myself last year sitting at the same position and pretty much living the years as it is.  One good reason for that was that, I didn’t set myself a target on what I wanted to do or needed to do.  Maybe that’s why nothing happened, and I was so excited when 2010 came.  But I didn’t do anything, when it came.

Holankia Talkshow

But looking on the bright side of 2010, I feel that God has been preparing me in a lot of ways.  And at times, I really feel that being hopeless He is always there to watch over me.  And no doubt, that life goes on He remains the same.  And not to forget that The Holankia Talkshow has been started, where I actually had big plans for it.  But apparently died slowly due to lack of ideas on what I want to talk about.  But it was fun while it lasted, and it sort of gave me the courage to pretty much do a video log after that.  So I think it’s a good start, and will try to plan to talk about something as well starting next year.

Plus since I’m planning to head back into song writings again, hopefully I would have enough time to do something about it.  As I’ve put that talent away for a very long time already, and it’s kinda hard to get inspired to write something.  But never the less, I know it will come back if I keep on working on it.  Maybe that’s why I started the podcasting series, which actually got me to figure out on how to record stuff onto my laptop. So hopefully by end of next year I might have something to show already.  Hehehe.

Christmas is around the corner

So since Christmas is around the corner, I may as well start doing something about it as well.  So this the time to be busy, and I have been seriously slacking off.  But will go back to top gear starting tomorrow, as I need to sort out a few more things again.  Hopefully by then, things will pick up before the year ends.  And it’s kinda exciting when you draw out your plans and being able to work on it.

Family First

But one thing I learn this year is that, above all things I need to do everyday.  I have to make sure family is always first.  Been pretty much neglecting in a way, whereby been so busy with activities but don’t really spend time with the family.  Things really brighten up, when I decided to stop from other things to spend time with the two important people in my life.  And positive things do came out from all that, so I guess it’s a good sign.  Anyway, going to close up now.  You guys have a good one.
